Alokesh Bappi Lahiri, born on 27 November, is a musician who has created a distinct identity. He is known not only for his voice but also for his personality. Bappi Lahiri grew up in Jalpaiguri town in West Bengal. His parents were singers. Bappi learned music in his childhood. In those days when they were growing up, Western music was becoming a craze among the youth of our country. Elvis Presley was the idol of Bappi Lahiri. Along with the voice of Elvis Presley, he was also crazy about his style. Whenever Elvis Presley did the show, he had a thick gold chain around his neck. Bappi liked his style very much. Bappi decided that if he were able to make a name for himself in the world of music, he would wear a gold chain like Elvis Presley.
Bappi started giving music in Bengali films. After this he came to Mumbai. His desire was to work in Hindi films. Initially, he also had to struggle. Renowned singer Kishore Kumar seemed to be his distant maternal uncle in the relationship. Bappi Lahiri never used his name, but learned a lot from him. After all, his songs went on well in 'Chalte Chalte'. In the seventies he started being called Disco King. The songs he composed had a western tune and had a great dance number. As soon as the movies were successful, Bappi Lahiri started wearing gold ornaments. Later, he began to feel that his luck was changing due to wearing gold. Then he increased the number of chain around his neck and also made the design heavy.
